BAUERFEIND IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CROSS BRACE PROTOCOL

The Cross Brace Protocol has emerged as an innovative treatment modality that is redefining the concept and therapeutic approach to ACL recovery, providing patients with diverse options of care. Bauerfeind’s dedicated research, development, and specialist teams have worked in collaboration with Dr. Tom Cross at the Sydney Stadium Clinic to present an effective bracing solution, and build industry connectivity to support the successful integration of the protocol across the allied health space.

A HISTORY OF PARTNERSHIP

The Cross Brace Protocol represents an innovative and evidence-driven initiative to ACL management that implements a systematic bracing regime to enable and maximise healing of specific high-grade ACL ruptures. As such, a key priority during the developmental and research phases of the protocol was the selection of a bracing option that is suitable for the demands of the protocol, whilst being scalable to each progressive stage to enable patients to seamlessly graduate through the protocol with positive outcomes.

A HISTORY OF PARTNERSHIP

Dr. Tom Cross’ meticulous selection criteria for a brace reflected the need to achieve a balance between guaranteeing strong clinical effectiveness, demonstrated through observable ligament healing, and achieving adequate patient comfort to foster compliance and positive experiences throughout the protocol. Bauerfeind HQ and our dedicated team of specialists and technicians initiated a novel initiative of modifying and implementing specialisations to the SecuTec Genu brace to ensure it aligns with the selection requirements set by Dr. Cross, taking into consideration the need to enable anatomical healing of torn ACL fibres whilst enabling an improved recovery experience to promote adherence to the treatment plan.

A HISTORY OF PARTNERSHIP

Bauerfeind’s work involved a 12-month collaboration and liaison strategy with esteemed orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, research experts, and Dr. Cross to align research and clinical evidence with Dr. Cross’ meticulous selection criteria to execute an evidence-based optimisation process for the SecuTec Genu. Through consistent consultation and iteration, the SecuTec Genu has been tailored to ensure suitability for clinical use in the protocol with attention to usability and user-centric design.

AN IDEAL BRACE FOR PROTOCOL SUCCESS

BAUERFEIND SECUTEC GENU

The Cross Brace Protocol provides a non-invasive treatment modality for patients with high-grade specific ACL ruptures. Through controlled manipulations to knee flexion and extension over a 8, 10 or 12 week period, the protocol aims to:

  • Promote full structural and anatomical healing of torn ACL fibres.
  • Preserve and elevate the inherent functional capability of the ligament to consolidate joint integrity.
  • Encourage the development of unrestricted neuromuscular and biomechanical stabilisation to promote a full return to activity.

WHAT SETS THE SECUTEC GENU APART

The consultation process with Dr. Cross resulted in the SecuTec Genu becoming an ideal Cross Brace Protocol brace, with optimised design elements that render it suitable for the protocol whilst promoting positive patient experiences. These include:

SecuTec Genu

UNMATCHED COMFORT

7 standard sizes enable an anatomically contoured brace that is partially customised to each individual joint shape to ensure comfort and a perfect fit for your patient.

SecuTec Genu

ACCURATE ANGLE MANIPULATION

Specially developed limitation blocks enable extension limitations to achieve accurate range of motion (ROM) restrictions for each protocol stage within a 3 degree margin of variation.

SecuTec Genu

EASE OF USE

Innovative buckle system enables patients to conveniently don and doff the brace without the need to step into the brace, allowing the knee to remain fixed at the required position and easily adjusted.

SecuTec Genu

HIGH PATIENT COMPLIANCE

Lightweight aluminium frame with microfiber padding provides ergonomic solution to promote patient comfort and reduce occurrence of skin sensitivity.

As the Cross Brace Protocol continues to drive optimism and interest from practitioners and patients as a viable conservative treatment program, our commitment at Bauerfeind is centred on informing and educating practitioners on the SecuTec Genu, and building competence and confidence in optimum bracing techniques to position clinicians and practices to successfully implement the protocol with an effective bracing solution.
