HOW CAN I PREVENT OR AVOID A KNEE INJURY WHILE PLAYING NETBALL?
Wearing a Bauerfeind brace or knee support can minimise your chances of a netball injury by providing enhanced stability, proprioception and moisture-wicking medical-grade compression. Bauerfeind knee braces help to promote blood flow with the use of our 3D weaved medical grade compression, something not found when using simple neoprene sleeves and braces. This added support will help stabilise your joint without limiting your ability to run down a court or score your next goal.
HOW TO TREAT A NETBALL KNEE INJURY
- We recommend seeking treatment from a physiotherapist on treating a netball injury. They may recommend one the following treatments.
- Strains or Sprains. Many sprains and strains can be treated with the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. A good physiotherapist can assist with the recovery however prevention is always better than cure.
- Arthritis of the Knee. Non-surgical treatment options for severe knee arthritis include physiotherapy exercises, applications of ice or heat and using supportive devices.
- Jumper’s Knee. This is commonly known as Patellar tendonitis. Rarely does this condition require surgery. It can generally be treated using a combination of anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen) and exercise. A corticosteroid injection may also be used.
Play it safe: Consult a doctor if you experience unusually intense and persistent knee pain.
