HOW AM I ABLE TO PREVENT OR AVOID AN ANKLE INJURY WHEN I RUN?
Uneven surfaces and fatigue carry with them the risk of injury. Some runners also suffer from unstable ligaments and tendons. Wearing a Bauerfeind brace or ankle support can minimise your chances of a running ankle injury by providing enhanced stability, proprioception and medical-grade compression. Some of the most common forms of injury while running include runner’s knee, ACL and MCL tears, tendinitis and stress fractures.
Bauerfeind ankle braces help to promote blood flow with the use of medical grade compression, something not found when using simple neoprene sleeves and braces. Medical compression socks might also be used to aid in your recovery. Protect your joints so you can enjoy your next marathon, 10k, 5k, bushwalk or trail run.
HOW TO TREAT A RUNNING ANKLE INJURY
- We recommend visiting a physiotherapist for treatment and advice on treating common running injuries. They may recommend the following treatments.
- Strains or Sprains. Many sprains and strains can be treated with the RICE method: Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. A good physiotherapist can assist with the recovery however prevention is always better than cure.
- Runner’s Knee. This is the common name for patellofemoral pain syndrome. This is often due to abnormal mechanics caused by problems close to the knee, forcing the patella to bump against the femoral groove. We recommend speaking with a running specific physiotherapist, they will usually review your running form as well tissue and musculature.
